Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder where people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas, sensations, or behaviors that provoke them into an action. Often the individual carries out the behaviors to attempt to get rid of the obsessive thoughts, but this only provides temporary relief while exacerbating the situation. Not performing the rituals usually causes great anxiety.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is more common than was once thought. Most people who develop it show symptoms well before age 30. There are theories about the cause of OCD; some reports have linked OCD to head injury, infections, and brain abnormalities, but more research is needed. Some researchers have tried to find links to Tourette’s syndrome, since about 20% of people with OCD also have tics.
The first medication usually considered is a type of antidepressant called a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). These drugs include Citalopram (Celexa), Fluoxetine (Prozac), Fluvoxamine (Luvox), Paroxetine (Paxil) or Sertraline (Zoloft). Working with world renowned psychiatrists and medical doctors assures our clients receive the best possible care, including the right balance of medications specific to our client’s needs.
